We love this BEST! We had hands-on with an aunt in the Kampong.
First, she showed us the ingredients and did the mixture for us. We then used the dough and placed gula Melaka into the dough. We rolled the dough into a ball and started boiling it in hot water.
The aunt coated the green dough with coconut flakes.

It was so fun! We had an enjoyable time making and eating.

We continued doing ketupat. We had fun!

We were afraid that we will make a mess of our work, but it was easy and the painting was pretty!

A Kampung House in Malacca?

 

 

                               

The kampung house is situated about 22 kilometers from Malacca town. It was built in 1914 by the penghulu, or chieftain, of Merlimau: Datuk Penghulu Abdul Ghani. Now you will see traditional furniture and embellishments, typical in many Malaccan village houses. 
It's a rare find to see Kampung houses in Singapore. It will be an eye-opener for us if we get to see these houses.

                                                              Jonker Street

Jonker street is a very attractive place in Malacca and a popular area of the historic city to visit.  The street is more happening on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at night but is not quite busy throughout the day as well since Malacca was awarded the World Heritage status by UNESCO in 2008.  Now the streets are lined with souvenir shops in addition to the traditional restaurants that have staked claim here for decades.  Foods and drinks found here is Hai Nan coffee, cendol, laksa, and so on are recommended.

Traditional Games

Traditional Malay games usually require craft skills.
Sepak Raga and kite flying are among traditional games that were mentioned in the Malay Annals played by nobilities and royalties of Malacca Sultanate .

Sepak Raga aka Sepak Takraw

Sepak Raga (now known as Sepak Takraw ) is one of the most popular Malay games and has been played for centuries. Traditionally, Sepak raga was played in circle by kicking and keeps aloft the rattan ball using any part of the body except the arms and hands. It is now recognized as Malaysia ’s national sport and played in the international sporting events such as Asian Games and Southeast Asian Games .


Other popular game is top spinning which usually played after the harvest season. A great skill of craftsmanship is required to produce the most competitive Gasing(top), some of which spin for two hours at a time.




 

This is the Sepak Takraw ball. It is made of rattan. One of our team members (Hasan) is a very good player for this sport. He had won countless of games during the inter-school competition!

Kite flying is also one of the most played games in Malacca.

This is one of  the traditional female costume in Malacca. People wear this costume anywhere they go.In the early colonial days, Kebayas were hand-sewn by Peranakan women.

This is the traditional malay costume worn during a malay wedding.
We love it! The colours are striking and the decorations made the place look grand!

Malacca is appealing due to its rich and vibrant past.
Malacca is renowned as the place where the history of Malaysia began.
From a quiet fishing village back in the early 15th Century, Malacca grew into one of the world's greatest trading empires. 
Merchants came from as far as Arabia, India and Europe to trade in silk, spices, gold and procelain.
